Fibromyalgia is a pain in the neck. No one who deals with it would deny that. They’d also share that it’s a pain in most every other part of the body. But for many of us, the pain rests mainly on the plain – across the prairie of the neck and shoulders. Does it for you, too?

The tips provided in this article are helpful for those with neck and/or shoulder pain – whatever the source. Not just for fibrofolk and those with chronic illness.

Neck pain originates from many sources. Do any of the following conditions sound familiar to you?

Neck pain from physical issues:

  • Pinched nerve
  • Posture issues
  • Spinal malformations
  • Disc disease
  • Stenosis
  • Nutritional deficiencies
  • Environmental impacts
  • Injuries
  • Temporary muscle pulls, sleep position issues, etc.
  • Referred pain from another part of the body

Neck pain from emotional issues:

  • Shouldering the weight of the world (our body FEELS the weight of that worry)
  • Financial burdens
  • Relationship burdens
  • Fears and anxieties
  • Overall stress
  • Holding a grudge
  • Pent up anger

Ouch!

Of course, this list’ll just get you started. Go ahead and add your own personal experiences. As you check off the familiar items on these lists, take notice to an overall theme. Neck pain doesn’t likely stem from one single reason. It’s usually a combination of several physical and emotional issues.

Fortunately, some simple physical remedies can tackle the issues of neck and shoulder pain at their roots. Physical approaches can work at the problem from the physical side of things and the benefits translate to the emotional side as well.

Here are just a few. Have you tried …

  • Simple fitness routines
  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • TENS units
  • Micro current technology

Or have you tried other physical approaches to heal your neck pain?

For basic fitness routines, here are a few resources.

Fitness routines to soothe neck pain without any additional equipment needed.

Fitness routines to sooth neck pain using light weights.

Here’s a recent review I’ve written about a microcurrent therapy you may wish to try.

And, don’t forget your nose! Stress management through aromatherapy can be very beneficial. My favorite stress-busting essential oil scents are peppermint, spearmint, orange, lemon, and cinnamon. Feel free to Contact Me here for more ideas on how to use essential oils in your home.

For therapeutic benefits in dealing with anxiety, check out this Essential Oils for Anxiety article from Dr. Axe.
