Are your self-care practices getting results? What type of results are you hoping to find to deal with fibro? Getting started in any self-care program for fibromyalgia, autoimmune conditions or any chronic health challenge takes some focus and strategic planning.
Self-Care Results
If self-care isn’t a priority, then getting started may be a challenge.
When it came to my own self-care practices many years ago, the first step I took was to improve my meal-time choices.
I learned about the healing benefits of whole, nutrient-dense, fiber-rich foods. Then I applied the healing benefits of body movement. Lastly, I incorporated the healing benefits of emotional wellness practices including stress management.
I started out slowly. I began to eat better and to actually pay attention to the quality of foods that I consumed. I started to move my body on a daily basis in whatever limited way I could.
I saw results from my efforts and kept going.
The Restoration Trio
At the time, I thought these practices were silly and would have little if any, effect. I was wrong. But, I had to try. I now refer to these three healing practices in my book, FibroWHYalgia, as The Restoration Trio: Nutrition, Body Movement, and Emotional Wellness.
Applying the final component of The Restoration Trio – Emotional Wellness – was the most difficult for me. I wasn’t accustomed to paying attention to the negative chatter that ran through my mind. I wasn’t comfortable with slowing down and taking a look at my stress levels.
But it was the very act of slowing down,
that gave me the most clarity.
